Rhondda Cynon
Taff is a county borough in the preserved county of Mid Glamorgan, south
Wales.
The district borders Merthyr Tydfil and Caerphilly to the east, Cardiff and
the Vale of Glamorgan to the south, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot to the
west and Powys to the north. Its main towns are Aberdare, Mountain Ash and
Pontypridd.
Aberdare is an industrial town in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff
in the district of Glamorgan, south Wales, situated (as the name implies) at
the confluence of the Dar and Cynon rivers. The population at the (1991)
census was 31,619. It is 4 miles S.W. of Merthyr Tydfil and 24 miles N.W. of
Cardiff.Abersychan is
a large suburb of Pontypool, Torfaen in South Wales. It lies in the narrow
northern section of the Afon Llwyd valley.
Llantrisant is a town in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff, within
the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan, south Wales, lying on the River
Ely and the River Clun.
Llwynypia is a town in Rhondda Cynon Taff, Wales, lying in the Rhondda Fawr
Valley. The area is well known for its narrow streets of miners cottages
known as "The Terraces". The streets are so narrow that a single car can
barely pass through them. Some of the terraces were widened in recent years
but some are still in their original incredibly narrow state.
Mountain Ash is a town in the
county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff, and within the historic county
boundaries of Glamorgan, south Wales. It lies in the Cynon Valley. Mountain
Ash hosted the National Eisteddfod in 1905 and 1946. The town is served by
Mountain Ash railway station on the Aberdare line of the Valley Lines rail
network. Postally, the outlying villages of Glenboi, Fernhill, Cwmpennar,
Cefnpennar and Abercynon all come under the town.
Pontypridd is a town in
Glamorgan, Wales, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf. It has a
population of roughly 33,000, and is situated 12 miles (19 km) north of the
capital city, Cardiff. The "ridd" in Pontypridd is pronounced "reath" (as in
the word "breathe"). Pontypridd is often abbreviated "Ponty" by local
residents. Porth is a
town in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff, within the historic county
boundaries of Glamorgan, south Wales, lying in the Rhondda Valley and is
regarded as the gateway to the Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach valleys because
both valleys meet at Porth.
Talbot Green is a small commuter
town, just north of the M4 motorway, in the Rhondda Cynon Taff County
Borough of South Wales in the United Kingdom. It has two large retail parks
which are used by residents of the whole Rhondda Cynon Taff area. Its most
significant building is Lanelay Hall, the headquarters of South Wales Fire
and Rescue Service.
Tonypandy is a town in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff, within the
historic county boundaries of Glamorgan, south Wales, lying in the Rhondda
Fawr Valley. It is one of the principal shopping areas in the Rhondda and
has many shops to cater for all needs. A 30,000 sq ft ASDA superstore has
recently opened on the site of the Scotch Colliery, creating 300 jobs. The
town lies near the Mynydd y Gelli Iron and Bronze Age settlement and stone
