Newport is a city and principal area in Wales, in the United Kingdom. Standing on the banks of the River Usk, located roughly between Cardiff and Bristol, it is the cultural capital and largest urban area in the historic county of Monmouthshire and governed by the unitary Newport City Council. The population of Newport is 140,100 making it the third-largest city in Wales. It has a greater urban area in excess of 160,000 (est. 2006).

Bishton is a small rural community (parish) in the east of the city of Newport. The parish lies in the Llanwern electoral district (ward) and contains the eastern end of Llanwern Steelworks, the Underwood estate as well as Bishton itself.

Christchurch is a hamlet located on the top of Christchurch Hill in the Caerleon ward of the city of Newport, South Wales. The top of the hill awards panoramic views both towards the Bristol Channel in the south and through the Vale of Usk and into the Monmouthshire countryside to the north.

Langstone. It is situated on the eastern edge of the city and is one of Newport's more affluent areas. Some of the ward is hilly and heavily forested. It is bounded to the north and east by the city boundary, to the west by the Caerleon ward and to the south west by the Ringland and Llanwern wards.

Llanmartin is a parish in the city of Newport, South Wales. Also, Pencoed Castle is situated nearby. A small hamlet of Llanmartin consists of farms and a number of houses — the Old Barn Llanmartin is an old circa 1800 barn converted to a local public house serving quality food and drink. Within St Martins Church is a tomb of the ancestors of the families that resided in Pencoed Castle.

Llanvaches is a village and community parish located in the city borough of Newport, South Wales. Llanvaches is located in between the market town of Chepstow (in Monmouthshire) and Newport city centre, just off the A48 road. It is about 7 miles into Newport centre and about the same to Chepstow.

Lower Machen is small hamlet of 19 houses on the A468 road at the very western edge of the city of Newport, South Wales. Machen itself lies further west in the county borough of Caerphilly.

Nash is a village and community parish to the south of the city of Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom, in the Liswerry ward. Together with the neighbouring parishes of Goldcliff and Whitson, Nash is one of the "Three Parishes" which have long been treated as a unit - geographical, socially, economically and ecclesiastically.

Penhow is a small village and community parish on the eastern edge of the boundary of the of the city of Newport, South Wales. It is best known for Penhow Castle, which has claims to be the oldest inhabited castle in Wales.

Peterstone or Peterstone Wentlooge is a small hamlet on the to the south west of the city of Newport, South Wales. Like most of the settlements on the Wentlooge Level it lies on land reclaimed from the Bristol Channel  Peterstone itself lies right against the sea wall

St. Brides or St. Brides Wentloog is a small hamlet to the south west of the city of Newport in south Wales.
The West Usk Lighthouse is built on the shore of the Bristol Channel south of this parish. It was the birthplace of Lyn Harding (1867 – 1952), the Welsh actor of stage, silent and talkie films, and radio.

Wentloog is a community parish in the southwest of the city of Newport, South Wales, in the Marshfield ward.
The parish is bounded by Percoed reen to the northwest, the Ebbw River to the northeast, the Bristol Channel to the southeast and the Great Western Main Line to the southwest. It contains the hamlet of St Brides Wentloog and Peterstone Wentloog.

Whitson is a village in the outskirts of the City of Newport, South Wales. Whitson is located four miles south east of the city of Newport on the Caldicot and Wentloog Levels, a large area of coastal land reclaimed from the sea.
