| Caerphilly is a
town in South Wales, located at the bottom of the Rhymney Valley, with a
population of approximately 31,000. It is about 2-3 miles north of the
Cardiff suburbs of Lisvane and Rhiwbina, separated by Caerphilly Mountain.
It is traditionally within the county of Glamorgan, on the border with
Monmouthshire, but is in the modern ceremonial county of Gwent, and
administratively independent as the county borough of Caerphilly. The town
gives its name to Caerphilly cheese, which originated in the area.
Caerphilly is the site of Caerphilly Castle, built between 1268 and 1271,
which is the largest castle in Wales, and second largest in Britain (after
Windsor).
Abercarn is a small town
community in South Wales, 10 miles north-west of Newport on the A467 between
Cwmcarn and Newbridge, Caerphilly.
Bargoed is a town in the
Rhymney Valley, Wales, one of the South Wales Valleys. It lies on the
Rhymney River in the county borough of Caerphilly and straddles ancient
boundary of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire. 'Greater Bargoed', as defined by
the local authority Caerphilly County Borough Council, consists of the towns
of Bargoed, Aberbargoed and the village of Gilfach. The combined population
of these settlements is approximately 13,000.
Blackwood is a small town in
south Wales on the River Sirhowy. Its unusually wide main street — built to
accommodate a tramway that formerly ran through the town centre — has led to
it becoming a retail centre for the surrounding region.

Newbridge is a town in the
county borough of Caerphilly, south Wales. Since the end of mining, new
leisure facilities have been constructed in Newbridge, and there are plans
for improved rail links with Newport and Cardiff. Residents have also
reported the return to the area of birds such as herons, buzzards and
kestrels.
Oakdale is a large village in
Caerphilly county borough, south Wales, 9½ miles north of Caerphilly itself.
Situated in the Sirhowy valley it is 3 miles east of Blackwood, which it
forms a conurbation with.
Risca is a town of approximately 11,500 people in Gwent South Wales within
the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It is today part of the Newport
conurbation (which as a whole has a population of 160,000). The town lies at
the south-eastern edge of the South Wales Coalfield, and a coal mine used to
operate in the town with terraced housing nearby for workers. It is home to
Ty-Sign , which is a large housing estate which has a leisure centre,
shops and skate park. It has a rural aspect, and is surrounded to the east
and west by several extensively wooded hills including Mynydd Machen
(1,188ft/362m) and Twmbarlwm (1,375ft/419m) which attract tourists for the
hillwalking and mountain bikers to Cwmcarn Forest Drive.
Rhymney is a town located in the county borough of Caerphilly, in south-east
Wales. Along with the villages of Pontlottyn, Fochriw, Abertysswg, Deri and
New Tredegar, Rhymney is designated as the 'Upper Rhymney Valley' by the
local Unitary Authority, Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Ystrad Mynach is a town in
the county borough of Caerphilly, previously within the ancient traditional
county of Glamorgan, South Wales, and is 5 miles north of Caerphilly town.
It has a population of around 10,000 and stands in the Rhymney Valley.
