Bridgend is a town in the traditional county
of Glamorgan and the main town in the County Borough of Bridgend in South
Wales. It is roughly midway between Cardiff and Swansea. The river crossed
by the original bridge which gave the town its name is the River Ogmore but
the River Ewenny also passes through the south of the town. Bridgend has
greatly expanded in size since the early 1980s and now has a population of
around 40,000.
Several burial mounds have been found in the vicinity of Bridgend suggesting
that the area was settled before Roman times. The A48 between Bridgend and
Cowbridge has a portion, known locally as "Crack Hill", a Roman road.
Brackla is a suburb of the South
Wales town of Bridgend. It is a large private housing estate built on
farmland to the east of Bridgend town centre and is home to approximately
12,000 of the 40,000 or so residents of Bridgend.
Bridgend itself developed at a ford on the River Ogmore, which was on the
main route between east and west Wales. Just north of the town, there is the
confluence of three rivers, the River Ogmore, the Llynfi River and the Garw
River. South of Bridgend the River Ewenny merges with the River Ogmore and
flows into the Bristol Channel.

tourist-oriented beach at Trecco Bay, at the east end of the town; a sandy
beach at Rest Bay, which lies to the northwest of the town; and the quiet

serves a sandy beach .
