County Wexford is a maritime county in the south-east of Ireland, in the
province of Leinster. Area: 2,352 km˛ (908 mi˛). It takes its name from the
principal town, Wexford, founded by Vikings and named by them 'Waesfjord',
meaning 'inlet of the mud-flats' in the Old Norse language. It is known as
'Ireland's sunny south-east' for its high amount of sunshine.
Adamstown is a town in County
Wexford, Ireland. It is about 24 km (15 mi) from Wexford and 20 km (12 mi)
from New Ross and Enniscorthy.
Bunclody is a small town in Ireland on the River Slaney on the border
between Wexford and Carlow. The R746 regional road intersects the N80 in the
centre of the town. It is a picturesque town on the Carlow border and at the
foot of Mount Leinster. The bulk of the town is in County Wexford. The town
is well known for the Eileen Aroon Festival during the months of July and
August.
Enniscorthy is the
second-largest town in County Wexford, Ireland (town and environs
population: 9,538. With a history going back to 465, Enniscorthy is one of
the longest continuously-occupied sites in Ireland.
Gorey is a market town in
north County Wexford, Ireland, situated on the main N11 Dublin to Wexford
road. The town is also connected to the railway network along the same
route. Local newspapers include the Gorey Guardian and Gorey Echo.
Kilmore is a village in south
county Wexford, Ireland, situated approximately 10 miles from Wexford town.
Kilmore has a number of claims to distinction, including the tradition of
carol singing in the village church at Christmas time, which has been taking
place for over 200 years. The history of the Kilmore carols can be traced
from the mid 18th century to the present day.
New Ross is a small town in
southwest County Wexford, Ireland, in the southeast of the country. It has a
population of about 7,500 people and is the third largest town in the county
after Wexford and Enniscorthy. New Ross is home to the Dunbrody replica
famine ship which is moored on the Quay, and allows visitors to experience
the sights and smells of life aboard an emigrant ship.
Rosslare Strand, or simply Rosslare is a village in County Wexford, Ireland.
The name Rosslare Strand is used to distinguish it from the nearby community
of Rosslare Harbour, site of the Rosslare Europort. Rosslare has been a
tourist resort for at least 100 years. It prides itself on being the
sunniest spot in Ireland, and records bear this out: Rosslare receives 300
hours more sunshine each year than the average place in Ireland. The long
sandy strand is a Blue Flag beach so it attracts swimmers and families,
while there are a number of good golf courses in the vicinity.
Wexford is the county town of County Wexford in the Republic of Ireland. It
is situated near the south-eastern tip of Ireland, close to Rosslare
Europort. The town is connected to the capital Dublin via the N11 National
Primary Route (European route E1), and the national rail network. Recently
