County Roscommon is a county located in central Ireland. Roscommon is also
the name of the county town. Athlone, on the River Shannon, which lies
partly in Roscommon and partly in County Westmeath (in the neighbouring
province of Leinster), is considered to be Ireland's most central town. Another large
scale development opened on November 1st, 2007. Athlone Town Centre
comprises two internal streets, with 54 shops and a hotel, and is the
largest shopping and leisure centre in Ireland, outside Dublin.
Athleague is a town on the River Suck in the west of Ireland in County
Roscommon, near the town of Roscommon. It is on the junction of the N63
national route and the R357 regional road. The town has a mill, a restored
church, and now a visitor centre. The church is the local parish for the
surrounding towns. Uniquely, west of the River Shannon.
Athlone is a town that lies on the River Shannon near the southern extremity
of Lough Ree, Republic of Ireland.
Athlone, along with Mullingar and Tullamore is one of the largest towns in
central Ireland and also the commercial capital of the Irish midlands, and
is located close to the geographical centre of Ireland, on the border of two
counties, Roscommon and Westmeath, which are in the provinces of Connacht
and Leinster respectively. It has a population of 17,544.
Ballaghaderreen is a town in
County Roscommon, Republic of Ireland. The town of Ballaghaderreen was
located in County Mayo until 1899, when it was transferred to Roscommon by
the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898. Gaelic games supporters are split
between those who support Mayo and the local Gaelic Athletic Association
team which competes in the Mayo county championship and those who support
the Roscommon county team.
Ballinlough is a small town
in County Roscommon, Ireland. The N60 national secondary road passes through
it. The town is located between Ballyhaunis and Castlerea on the Roscommon
to Castlebar road. Lake O'Flynn, which lies north of the town, is notable
for brown trout fishing. The lake is also the source of the River Suck
Boyle is a town in County Roscommon, Ireland. It is located at the foot of
the Curlew Mountains near Lough Key in the north of the county. The renowned
fishing lakes of Lough Arrow and Lough Gara are also close by. The
population of the town in 2002 was 2,205.
Castlerea is located in the
west of County Roscommon, Republic of Ireland. It is the second largest town
in the county with a population of 2842 (as of 2006). Roughly translated
from Irish, Castlerea can mean Brindled Castle or King's Castle. The town is
built on the River Suck and the River Francis , both tributaries of the
River Shannon.
Roscommon is the county town
of County Roscommon. Roscommon Golf Club was founded in 1904, the course,
set in parklands filled with mature sycamore, beech, whitethorn trees and
ash trees, was extended to eighteen holes in 1996 and now measures 6,390
metres (6,900 yards).
Roosky is a village on the
River Shannon in County Roscommon, Republic of Ireland in the northern
midlands of Ireland, near the point where counties Leitrim, Longford, and
Roscommon meet. The N4 road from Dublin to Sligo passes by the Leitrim side
of the village.
Strokestown is a town in
County Roscommon, Ireland. It is located at the junction of the N5 National
primary route and the R368 regional road in the north of the county.
Notable features includes one of the widest streets in Ireland and
Strokestown Park House (an 18th century mansion) with the longest herbaceous
border in Britain and Ireland. There is a famine museum commemorating the
Great Famine of 1845 in the town.
Tulsk is a village in County
Roscommon, Ireland. The N5 national primary road passes through it as of
2007, though a by-pass is planned. The village is located between
Strokestown and Bellanagare on the Dublin to Castlebar/Westport road. |
