The entire county of Longford offers a wide selection of ancient, historical buildings. These include various castles and stately homes. Throughout the countryside there are a great many local historic walks and trails. Longford's topography is mainly flat, with many green fields and trees. There are many blanket bogs in the county and local communities and tourists can walk along designated areas in the boglands. In addition, the Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre is located near to Longford, in Kenagh.

Ardagh is a town in County Longford, Ireland about 10 km from Longford Town. It is located off the N4 road. Much of the town was built as an 'Estate Village' in the 19th century, based on a Swiss design, and has received some acclaim for its beauty

Ballymahon is a small town on the River Inny in the southern part of County Longford, Ireland. It is located at the junction of the N55 National secondary road and the R392 regional road. Ballymahon derives its name from Gaelic Baile Mathuna Town of Mahon.

Edgeworthstown or Mostrim is a market town in County Longford, Ireland. Its name derives from the Edgeworth Family (which includes novelist Maria Edgeworth) who have a long association with the town.

Granard is a town in the north of County Longford. Granard is known for the motte built by Richard Tuite. It stands 166 m (543 ft) above sea level, located at the head of the town. Due to the location between the three rivers and near Lough Sheelin, it is also a centre for trout and coarse fishing.

Lanesborough and Ballyleague is a town composed of two villages in the midlands of Ireland. Lanesborough is on the County Longford (east) side and Ballyleague on the County Roscommon (west) side of the River Shannon. They are located at the northern tip of Lough Ree on the N63 national secondary road at its junction with the R371 (at Ballyleague) and R392 (at Lanesborough).

Longford is the county town of County Longford in the Midlands of Ireland.
