Limerick is a city and the county seat of County Limerick in the province of
Munster, in the Midwest of the Republic of Ireland. The city lies on the
River Shannon, with three main crossing points near the city centre and has
a 2006 population of 91,000 inhabitants within its urban area. Limerick is at the centre of the
Midwest region. It is situated 195 km west of Dublin and is equidistant at
105 km from the cities of Cork to the south and Galway to the north. The
population of Limerick city and the immediate urban area (environs/suburbs)
is 90,778 (based on the 2006 census carried out by the CSO), of which 52,560
live within the city limits and 38,218 live in the city's immediate environs
in both County Limerick and County Clare.
Abbeyfeale is a historical market town in County Limerick, Republic of
Ireland near the boundary with County Kerry. The town is in the Midwest of
Ireland, some 21 km (13 miles) from Newcastle West on the N21 - the main
road from Limerick to Tralee.
Adare. The name Adare is derived from Áth Dara, meaning 'the ford of the
oak' and was historically a crossing point on the river Maigue. renowned as
one of Ireland's prettiest villages, Adare is designated as a Heritage Town
by the Irish government. Adare is located 16 km (10 mi) from Limerick City.
Castleconnell is a scenic village on the banks of the River Shannon, some 11
km (7 miles) from Limerick city and within a few minutes walk of the
boundaries with counties Clare and Tipperary. Many fine nineteenth-century
buildings overlook the Shannon in Castleconnell. One of these, the former
schoolhouse, is now home to the Irish Harp Centre, run by noted harpist
Janet Harbison and her husband, Malcolm Gullis. Another, the former convent,
is now the Castleoaks House Hotel, which (because of its scenic location) is
a popular venue for wedding receptions. A little south of the village lies
the ruins of the once-grand Mountshannon House, a Palladian mansion gutted
by fire early in the 20th century.
Kilmallock is a historic and sporting town in south County Limerick,
Ireland, near the border with County Cork. The town is steeped in mystery
and has a fantastic plethora of public houses.

west County Limerick, Ireland. The town is the largest town in the county,
excluding Limerick city, and is sited on the River Arra which flows into the
River Deel. It is located on the N21 road from Limerick to Tralee, between
Rathkeale and Abbeyfeale.
Oola is a village in County
Limerick, and the province of Munster, Ireland, near Limerick in the Midwest
of the country. The main N24 road from Limerick to Waterford passes through
the town and the town of Tipperary is located 12 kilometers south-east of
Oola. It has approximately 500 inhabitants.
Rathkeale is a town in west
County Limerick, Ireland, between Croagh and Newcastlewest. It is located 30
km (18 mi) southwest of Limerick city on the N21 road to Tralee, and lies on
the River Deel. Rathkeale has a significant Irish Traveller population.
Rathkeale has shopping facilities, a Museum and a Community College. The
town has a large Roman Catholic parish church, Augustinian Abbey ruins and
the Holy Trinity Church of Ireland church. |
