County Leitrim is one of the counties of the Republic of Ireland and is part
of the province of Connacht. Leitrim has a short length of Atlantic (Donegal
Bay) coastline but is a mostly inland county. Neighbouring Leitrim are the
Ulster counties of Donegal to the north, Fermanagh to the northeast, and
Cavan to the east, the Leinster county of Longford to the south and, to the
west, the Connacht counties of Roscommon and Sligo. Leitrim has
the shortest coastline of any county, which is just three kilometres long.
The county town is Carrick-on-Shannon (1,868 inhabitants). In 2003 the first
sets of traffic lights in Leitrim were installed at a pedestrian crossing in
Carrick-on-Shannon.
Today the county has the lowest population and the lowest population density
in the Republic and is the smallest county by area in the province of
Connacht. Ballinamore
is a small town in County Leitrim, Ireland, 21 km (13 mi) from the border
with Northern Ireland. It is located on the R202 regional road where it is
joined by the R199 and R204.
Carrick-on-Shannon is
situated in County Leitrim in Ireland on the County Roscommon border. The
population of the town was 3,163 in 2006. It is the largest town in County
Leitrim. As its name implies the town is located on the river Shannon which
is linked to the Erne via the Shannon-Erne Waterway.
Drumshanbo is a small town
situated in the heart of County Leitrim, Ireland. The town takes its name
from the Irish, Druim-Sean-Bhoth or "Ridge of the old huts". Drumshanbo is
surrounded by a scenic area of soft rolling hills, woodlands, lakes and the
Sliabh an Iarann and Arigna mountains. It is a beautifully preserved
traditional town with plenty of traditional pubs, shops and restaurants.

Manorhamilton is a small town
in County Leitrim, Ireland. It is located on the N16 in the north of the
county.
Manorhamilton is also home to the Leitrim Sculpture Centre. This is an arts
centre that, as its name suggests, is particularly focused on sculpture. It
offers facilities for artists to carry out technical work related to
sculpture (e.g. bronze casting and stone working) as well as providing more
general support for the broad variety of visual artists that live in the
vicinity - many of these having moved from elsewhere in the world.
Mohill is a town in County
Leitrim, Ireland. The town is located in the south of the county, north of
the midlands of Ireland. The town of Carrick-on-Shannon is approximately
16km away. The town is built on a slope toward the Rinn River and is centred
on a cross-road of the Main Street and the principal cross streets of Glebe
Street and Hyde Street. |
