Kilkenny is the county seat of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The city proper has
a population of 8,661, but including environs is 22,179; it is the Republic
of Ireland's smallest city both by area and population. Kilkenny is located
on the River Nore and is famed for its history and nightlife. The city is famous for its many
medieval buildings and has been referred to as the "Marble City" for
centuries. The black stone with decorative white fossils that forms the
backbone of many of Kilkenny's fine buildings was quarried locally,
particularly from the Black Quarry located by the roadside, one mile south
of the city, past the castle. An exposed rock face can still be seen from
the road. Kilkenny Marble or Black Marble was exported to all corners of the
British Empire.
Bennettsbridge is a village in County Kilkenny, 6km south of Kilkenny city
in the southeast of Ireland. Located along the River Nore, the village has
become, in recent years, the home of several pottery and crafts producers.
It is located at a ford of the river, where a bridge, mill and weir have
been constructed. The current bridge dates from the 18th century, however
there has been a bridge at the site since the 13th century.
Callan is one of the largest towns in County Kilkenny in the Republic of
Ireland. Situated 16 km (10 mi) south of Kilkenny on the N76 road to Clonmel
(recently bypassed by the route), it forms the border between South
Tipperary and Kilkenny.
Castlecomer is the main town in north County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland,
with a population of about 2000.
Castlecomer is perhaps most famous for the Deerpark Mines which produced
large amount of anthracite coal until it's closure in the late 1960's.
Freshford is a village in north County Kilkenny. The Irish Conker
Championships have been staged annually in Freshford since 1999 . Conkers
are the fruits of the Horse Chestnut tree. The chestnuts for the competition
are provided by 52 Horse Chestnut trees that surround the village green,
which produce 30,000 conkers. Six hundreds competitors , including many from
abroad, take part.
Graiguenamanagh is a town in County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is located on the
R705 regional road by the border with County Carlow on the River Barrow at
the foot of Brandon Hill. It is home to Duiske Abbey, founded in 1204, from
which the town gets its name. All that remains of the Cistercian monastery
is the large gothic church which, at the time of its building, was the
largest Cistercian building in Ireland.
Inistioge is a small scenic village in County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is
situated on the River Nore, 25 km southeast of Kilkenny. Inistioge has been
the scene for a number of films, most notably Circle of Friends, Widow's
Peak and Teen Wolf.

Kilkenny city in the southeast of Ireland. With a population of 1,600 (2002
Census), the town is the biggest in the county outside of Kilkenny city. It
has a stretch of the River Nore running through it which, depending on the
time of year is abundant with salmon and trout.
