unique karst region, which contains rare flowers and fauna. At the western
edge of The Burren, facing the Atlantic Ocean, are the Cliffs of Moher. The
county's Southern border is the River Shannon, the longest river in Ireland.
Along this estuary is the town of Shannon and the location of Shannon
International Airport. This airport was the first airport to have a
duty-free zone.
Ballyvaughan is a small harbour village in County Clare in the Republic of
Ireland. It is located on the south shores of Galway Bay, in the northwest
corner of The Burren; the Burren is an area of great rocky expanse,
considered by many to be a unique landscape.

Ireland. The town retains some of its 19th century Victorian feel, and also
features many modern amenities.
Killaloe is a town in east
County Clare, Republic of Ireland, situated in the midwest of Ireland. The
village is on the south end of Lough Derg, while the settlement spreads
across the River Shannon, with the County Tipperary side known as Ballina.
The surrounding area is popular for hill-walking. The population of the
Killaloe Electoral Division in the 2006 census was 1,597

Liscannor is a coastal
village in County Clare, Republic of Ireland. Lying on the west coast of
Ireland, on Liscannor Bay, the village is located on the R478 road between
Lahinch, to the east, and Doolin, to the north. The Cliffs of Moher are
about 5 km (3 miles) west of the village.
Lisdoonvarna is a spa town of 800 people in County Clare in the Republic of
Ireland. Famous for its music and festivals, in September each year one of
Europe's largest matchmaking events is held in the town attracting upward of
40,000 romantic hopefuls, bachelor farmers and accompanying revellers. The
month-long event is an important tourist attraction. The current matchmaker
is Willie Daly, a fourth generation matchmaker.
Miltown Malbay is a village
in the west of County Clare, Ireland, next to Spanish Point. It is home to
the annual Willie Clancy Summer School and Festival. The festival honours
Willie Clancy, a famous uilleann piper who was a native of the village. Dr
Patrick Hillery, President of Ireland 1976-1990, was born at Spanish Point
near Miltown Malbay in 1923.
Mountshannon is a village in
east County Clare, Ireland. The village is on the western shore of Lough
Derg, north of Killaloe. Mountshannon boasts three pubs, one hotel, a tiny
post office, and one and a half shops (one of the shops is also the post
office and petrol station, while the other is half pub, half shop).
Mountshannon is a very well kept and pretty village, and it is a jumping off
point for a visit to the nearby Inish Cealtra, (Holy Island) now uninhabited
(except for the cattle), it was once a monastic settlement, which is well
worth a visit.
Newmarket-on-Fergus is a
town
in
County Clare, Ireland. The town is situated about halfway between Limerick
and Ennis, and near to Shannon Town and airport. As its name implies, it
lies on the River Fergus. The main N18 Limerick–Ennis road passed through
Newmarket until the town was bypassed in 2003. Neighbouring towns and
villages include Clarecastle, Cratloe, Sixmilebridge, Quin and Shannon.
Scarriff is a town in east
County Clare, situated in the midwest of Ireland. The town is on the West
end of Lough Derg and is best known for its harbour. There are a number of
festivals and shows in Scarriff every year, including the Scarriff Show
(started in 1944), the Scarriff Harbour Festival (started in 2003) and the
Clare Drama Festival (started in 1947).
