Worcestershire is a county
located in the West Midlands region of central England. From 1974 to
1998 it was administered as part of Hereford and Worcester. The county
borders Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands,
Warwickshire, and Gloucestershire. To the west, the county is bordered
by the Malvern Hills, by which is located the spa town of Malvern. The
western side of the hills is in the county of Herefordshire. The
southern part of the county is bordered by Gloucestershire and the
northern edge of the Cotswolds, and to the east is Warwickshire. The two
major rivers flowing through the county are the Severn and the Avon.
Broadway is a small
Cotswold village in Worcestershire, England. Often referred to as the
'Jewel of the Cotswolds', Broadway village lies beneath Fish Hill on the
western Cotswold escarpment. The 'broad way' is the wide grass-fringed
main street, centred around The Green, which is lined with red chestnut
trees and honey-coloured Cotswold limestone buildings, many dating from
the 16th century.
Bromsgrove is a town in
Worcestershire, England. The town is 16 miles north east of Worcester
and 13 miles south west of Birmingham. It had a population of 27,633 in
2001 and is in Bromsgrove District.
Droitwich Spa is a town
in northern Worcestershire, England, on the River Salwarpe and has a
population of 22,585 (2001). The town is situated on massive deposits of
salt, and salt has been extracted there since ancient times. The natural
Droitwich brine contains 2 1/2 lb of salt per gallon - ten times
stronger than sea water and only rivaled by the Dead Sea
Kidderminster is a town in the Wyre Forest district of Worcestershire,
England. It is located approximately twenty miles south-west of
Birmingham city centre. The 2001 census recorded a population of 55,182
in the town. The town is twinned with the town of Husum, Germany.
Malvern is a town and
civil parish in Worcestershire, England . It includes the settlements of
Great Malvern (with Barnards Green and Poolbrook), Malvern Link, Malvern
Wells, West Malvern, Little Malvern and North Malvern. Most of these
urban centres are separated by vast tracts of open common land. The
civil parish has a population of 28,749 (2001 census). Great Malvern on
the eastern flank of the Malvern Hills and on the western perimeter of
The Malverns is the main urban centre.
Redditch is a town and
local government district in north-east Worcestershire. The district had
a population of 79,216 in 2005.
Stourport-on-Severn, often shortened to Stourport, is a town in north
Worcestershire, England, a few miles to the south of Kidderminster.
Stourport lies on the River Severn, and at the time of the 2001 census
had a population of 19,713. In 2006 Stourport-on-Severn was granted
Fairtrade Town status.
Tenbury Wells is a small
scenic market town in Worcestershire, England, lying on the south bank
of the River Teme. It is known for its winter auctions of holly and
mistletoe and for its "chinese-gothic" Pump Room buildings, built in
1862, and recently restored
Worcester is a city in
the West Midlands of England. With an estimated population of 94,300,
Worcester is the county town of Worcestershire and it is situated some
30 miles (48 km) southwest of Birmingham and 29 miles (47 km) north of
Gloucester. The River Severn runs through the middle of the city and the
cathedral overlooks the river. |
