Nottinghamshire is an English county in the East Midlands, which borders
South Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and
Derbyshire. The county town is traditionally Nottingham. The districts of
Nottinghamshire are Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield,
Newark and Sherwood, and Rushcliffe.
Arnold is a suburb of Nottingham, England. It is to the north-east of the
city boundary. Arnold has a vibrant town centre including a diverse range of
restaurants and bars and a choice of shops including big stores such as
Sainsbury's and ASDA and small independent businesses.
Attenborough is a suburb in
the Broxtowe borough of Nottinghamshire. It forms part of Greater
Nottingham, and is to the southwest of Nottingham, between Long Eaton (to
the southwest) and Beeston (to the northeast). The village is the location
of Attenborough railway station, and of Attenborough Nature Centre.
Bingham is a prosperous
market town in the Rushcliffe borough of Nottinghamshire, England. It has a
population of around 9,000 people. It lies about nine miles east of
Nottingham as similar distance south of Newark-on-Trent and west of Grantham
It is adjacent to the junction of the A46 (the old Fosse Way) with the A52.
It is the site of Bingham railway station.
Carlton is a suburb to the
east of the city of Nottingham in the borough of Gedling. It is close to
Sneinton, Bakersfield, Mapperley, and St Anns. It is near the River Trent.
Eastwood is a town in
Nottinghamshire, England, six miles west of Nottingham. It is the
northernmost town in the Borough of Broxtowe. Its main industry was formerly
coal mining, but the mines have now all shut down. Eastwood is one of the
few places where the distinctive dialect of East Midlands English is
extensively spoken. Eastwood is referred to as 'Aes'wood' in this dialect.
Kirkby-in-Ashfield is a
market town in Nottinghamshire, England, with a population of 25,265
(according to the 2001 National Census). It is a part of the Greater
Nottingham area. The Head Offices of Ashfield District Council are located
there. Kirkby-in-Ashfield lies on the eastern edge of the Erewash Valley
which separates Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Mansfield is a town in Nottinghamshire, England. It lies on the River Maun,
from which the name of the town is derived. It is the main town in the
Mansfield local government district. The District of Mansfield has a
population of 100,000. The rest of the Urban Area's population live in the
neighbouring boroughs of Bolsover, Ashfield and Newark & Sherwood. Mansfield
has a large market square and, focused around the market, a large commercial
centre including a museum, the Palace Theatre, and numerous pubs, bars and
clubs.
Newark-on-Trent (sometimes shortened to Newark) is a market town in
Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands region of England. It is located on the
River Trent, with the River Devon also running through the town. Situated at
the intersection of the Great North Road and the Fosse Way, Newark
originally grew around Newark Castle - now ruined - and a large market place
- now lined with historic buildings. According to the 2001 census, it had a
population of 25,376, but Newark forms a continuous built-up area with the
neighbouring parish of Balderton. The combined population of the two is
35,674.
Retford is a market town in Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands of England,
located 31 miles from the county town of Nottingham, in the district of
Bassetlaw. Retford is bypassed by the A1 trunk road and the A57 which links
Retford to a number of major towns and cities. Robin Hood Airport Doncaster
Sheffield is also within driving distance up the A638 towards Doncaster.
Retford is served by two railway lines, the East Coast Main Line which runs
between London and Edinburgh and the Sheffield to Lincoln Line which has
links to Sheffield, Lincoln, Worksop, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
Ruddington is an English town
situated five miles South of Nottingham in the Borough of Rushcliffe. It has
a population of around 6,500 people and was awarded town status in 2006
following the extension of the existing village with a new development in
Pasture Lane. A fiercely independent community, residents have previously
conducted high profile campaigns in an attempt to retain the rural identity
as a village and prevent it being subsumed into the adjoining suburban
districts of Clifton and West Bridgford. Ruddington is also home to
Rushcliffe Country Park.
Southwell pronounced is a small town in Nottinghamshire, England. It is best
known as the site of Southwell Minster, the seat of the Church of England
diocese that covers Nottinghamshire. Its population is approx. 6,900. The
town lies on the River Greet, approximately fourteen miles (22 km) northeast
of Nottingham.
Worksop is a town in the
Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, on the River Ryton at the northern
edge of Sherwood Forest. It is about 19 miles East South East of the City of
Sheffield and its population is estimated (mid-2004) to be 39,800. It is
twinned with the German town Garbsen.
Worksop is known as the "Gateway to the Dukeries", so called for the number
of ducal residences in the area. An important manufacturer in the town is
Premier Foods UK, which produces products such as Batchelor's Soups and
Super Noodles and Oxo. Oxo is solely produced in Worksop. Wilkinson's
Distribution Centre is also an important employer as well as the recently
opened B&Q Distribution Centre. The Wilkinson UK headquarters are at JK
House, south of the town near the A60. The town is also home to Worksop
College a co-educational day and boarding school. |
