Merseyside is a metropolitan county in North West England, with a population of 1,365,900. Taking its name from the River Mersey. Merseyside is divided into two parts by the Mersey estuary: the Wirral is located on the west side of the estuary upon the Wirral Peninsula; the rest of the county is located on the east side. The northern part of Merseyside borders onto Lancashire to the north, Greater Manchester to the east, both parts border Cheshire to the south.

Bebington is a small town and electoral ward within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, in Merseyside. It is located along the River Mersey, on the eastern side of the Wirral Peninsula, and had a total resident population of 13,720 at the 2001 census.

Birkenhead is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral in Merseyside. It is located on the Wirral Peninsula, along the west bank of the River Mersey, opposite the city of Liverpool. At the 2001 Census, the town had a total resident population of 83,729.

Bootle is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, in Merseyside. It is 4 miles (6.4 km) to the north of Liverpool city centre, and has a total resident population of 77,640.

Earlestown forms the western part of the former urban district of Newton-le-Willows, but is now in the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, Merseyside. Earlestown has a small but busy town centre with many shops including high-street outlets such as Tesco, Boots and Woolworth's, and several high street banks alongside independent retailers. There are traditional pubs, social clubs, a superb live music venue called the L.G.M and a nightclub called Xenon.

Formby is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside. Historically a part of Lancashire, Formby was built on the plain adjoining the Irish Sea coast. Largely a residential town, Formby becomes a tourist hot spot during the summer months, with day trippers attracted to its beaches, sand dunes, and wildlife.

Halewood is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, Merseyside, situated to the south-east of Liverpool. Though not officially part of Liverpool, it marks the southern edge of the city's urban area, being bordered by the southern suburbs of Hunts Cross and Woolton and once was part of Liverpool (its postcode is still L26) until Liverpool's boundaries were reduced. However, people from Halewood still regard themselves as from Liverpool, as many of them were moved there from the city anyway.

Heswall is a town on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside. Administratively, it is a ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral. At the time of the 2001 census, the total population of the ward was 16,012 (Male: 7,474; Female: 8,538),  which included the nearby villages of Barnston and Gayton. The population of the town of Heswall itself was 7,750.

Hoylake is a seaside town on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside. It is located at the north western corner of the peninsula, near to the town of West Kirby and where the River Dee estuary meets the Irish Sea. As of the 2001 Census, the population of Hoylake is 13,042.

Huyton is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, in Merseyside. It has close associations with its neighbour, Roby, and is to east of the city of Liverpool.

Kirkby  is a new town in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, Merseyside. The town is well served by public transport, with train connections from Kirkby railway station to Liverpool (on the Merseyrail Northern Line) and Manchester (via Wigan, on the Kirkby Branch Line), and multiple bus routes connecting Kirkby with several nearby towns.

Liverpool is a city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, along the eastern side of the Mersey Estuary. Liverpool is internationally known as a cultural centre, with a particularly rich history in popular music (most notably The Beatles), performing and visual arts. In 2003, Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture for 2008. A series of cultural events during 2004-9 is planned, peaking in 2008.

Maghull is a town within the Sefton borough of Merseyside, on the West Lancashire Coastal Plain. Maghull's current population is approximately 28,000.

Prescot is a town and civil parish, within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley on Merseyside. It is 8 miles to the east of Liverpool, and lies within the historic boundaries of Lancashire.

Rainhill is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, Merseyside, England approximately 10 miles away from Liverpool. Rainhill contains nine pubs and social clubs: The Manor Farm, The Ship Inn, Rainhill Ex-Services Club, The Victoria, The Commercial, The Labour Club, The Rocket, The Coach Bar and The Black Horse, most of which have some aspect of the history of the area attached to them. For example, the Ship Inn is an old waiting post where people used to change horses on their journeys to Liverpool and The Manor Farm is one of the oldest buildings in Rainhill

Southport is a seaside town on the Irish Sea coast within the Sefton borough of Merseyside.  It is 16.5 miles (26.6 km) to the north of Liverpool, and 14.8 miles (23.8 km) west-southwest of Preston. Southport has many tourist attractions including Southport Pier, the second longest pleasure pier in Great Britain.

St Helens is a large town in Merseyside. Roughly equidistant between Liverpool and Wigan, it is the largest settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens. St Helens grew during the 19th century as a significant centre for Coal mining and Glassmaking. Today, St Helens is still very much an industrial and commercial town, its urban area having a total population of 176,843 at the time of the 2001 census.

Wallasey is a large town within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, in Merseyside, England, on the mouth of the River Mersey, at the northeastern corner of the Wirral Peninsula. According to the 2001 Census, the town had a total resident population of 58,710.

Whiston is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, in Merseyside. It is to the east of Liverpool lying approximately 8 miles (12.9 km) from the city centre. Lying south of the road linking Liverpool and Warrington, and crossed by the northern route of the Liverpool to Manchester railway.
